At Jupiter 1000, one of the world’s largest power-to-gas demonstrators, KHIMOD’s Heat Exchanger-Reactor (HER) converts green hydrogen and captured CO₂ into synthetic natural gas, turning renewable electricity into a storable, injectable fuel.

Spring 2024 performance tests, presented at Gastech Houston, confirmed the technology’s maturity: CO₂ conversion was above 92% across the entire operating range and close to 99% at optimal hydrogen ratios. Power consumption was under 1 kWh per Nm³ of gas produced. Catalyst progress even allowed the reactor count per train to drop from three to one for the same output, showing how much potential the HER design still has.

Another important factor for a power-to-gas unit is responsiveness. The system reaches full production in about 80 minutes after a cold start, which is in line with its grid-balancing design.
