SAF from CO₂ and hydrogen or syngas

A key pathway to decarbonize aviation. KHIMOD enables the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) through high-performance processes combining CO₂ hydrogenation and advanced reactor technologies.

What is SAF ?

A low-carbon drop-in alternative to conventional jet fuel

Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) are low-carbon alternatives to conventional jet fuel.

SAF is produced from captured CO₂ and low-carbon hydrogen, through intermediate steps such as syngas production and fuel synthesis (e.g. Fischer-Tropsch).

It is one of the main solutions to reduce emissions in aviation, a sector where electrification remains limited.

How it works

From CO₂ to jet fuel

The production of SAF involves several steps:

01

CO₂ reduction (rWGS) to produce CO

02

Fuel synthesis (Fischer-Tropsch or equivalent)

03

Distillation and blending

KHIMOD’s Heat Exchanger-Reactors enable efficient and controlled reactions, especially in highly exothermic processes.

Performance & positioning

High-performance CO₂ conversion, compact and modular

KHIMOD’s technology enables high selectivity towards the kerosene cut with strong control over reaction conditions. Its compact and modular approach is particularly suited to emerging SAF projects, where flexibility, integration and scalability are key.

KHIMOD is positioned upstream in the SAF value chain, enabling efficient CO₂ conversion and fuel synthesis processes.

Proof

From pilot to industrial projects

KHIMOD is involved in SAF-related developments, including AVEBIO and additional projects.

These initiatives demonstrate KHIMOD’s role in enabling next-generation aviation fuels.
