Developing sustainable aviation fuels from CO₂ and hydrogen.
Overview
A project supporting the decarbonization of aviation
AVEBIO is an industrial initiative focused on the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from CO₂ and low-carbon hydrogen. AVEBIO is the first SAF production site deployed in France.
The project contributes to the emergence of new fuel pathways required to reduce emissions in the aviation sector.
KHIMOD’s contribution
Enabling efficient CO₂ conversion
Within the AVEBIO project, KHIMOD provides its reactor technologies to support key steps in the fuel production process through a 2-step approach. Its solutions enable:
Efficient CO₂ conversion into intermediates
Improved control of reaction conditions
Improved selectivity towards value-added products
Integration into complex fuel production chains
Modularity
KHIMOD plays a key role in enabling high-performance processes within the SAF value chain.
Value chain
From CO₂ to aviation fuel
The production of SAF involves several transformation steps:
CO₂ capture and hydrogen production
Conversion into intermediates (e.g. syngas)
Synthesis and upgrading into aviation-grade fuels
AVEBIO illustrates the complexity and integration required to develop next-generation fuels.
Application
A key lever for aviation decarbonization
Sustainable aviation fuels are one of the main solutions to reduce emissions in air transport, where electrification remains limited.
They can be used as drop-in fuels, compatible with existing aircraft and infrastructure.
Impact
Accelerating SAF deployment
AVEBIO contributes to:
The development of industrial SAF pathways
The validation of CO₂-based fuel production
The structuring of new value chains in aviation
It supports the transition toward more sustainable air transport.
